HAXHI YMER SCHOOL (MEJTEP)

Haxhi Ymer Neighbourhood, St. Ferhat Binishi

HAXHI YMER SCHOOL (MEJTEP)
Ymer Haxhi Mejtep (school) is a premise within the complex of the Haxhi Ymer mosque and as the name indicates is located in Haxhi Ymer Neighbourhood. The premise is located opposite the entrance to the mosque.
Its primary function as a mejtep (school) served to educate students in religious lectures (Muslim), but later it was used for various activities such as a printing press and during the 90s it was used by secondary school students who took classes there.
Mejtep premise consists of two floors. On the ground floor over the years, there were some unprofessional interventions such as the expansion of openings in order to lighten space of the ground floor.
The premise was built from stones and mud material.

In the southern part of the mosque, there is an Ancak of 60 cm, which in times has undergone a significant deviation, and on a sequence of windows /7 aperture/.  Both the mosque and Mejtep is characterised with a shelter over 1.30 m, which is in its original appearance without cover. The construction within interstitial space is from wood, floor and attic of decorated frames. The shelter in the West, from the streets was subject to a deformation.  Change of destination led to unprofessional interventions made damaged the premise. In 2014, conservation-restoration works were performed in the Mejtep premise, both in the interior and exterior. To maintain the originality of this premise, except for openings in the ground floor, that remains to be restored to its original state in another phase of the intervention.
